David Wright Increases Vote Share, Stays on Hall of Fame Ballot
David Wright saw his longtime teammate Carlos Beltrán and longtime rival Andruw Jones get inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday, but saw some voter growth of his own. The former Mets captain was selected on 14.8% of ballots this year by members of the BBWAA, up from 8.1% last year.

While Beltrán may be the player Wright is most happy for, Jones’s induction may be the one that helps his case the most. Jones has now set a new mark for the lowest initial ballot percentage for a player who ended up voted in. The 10-time gold glover initially got only 7.3% of the vote, but this year, his ninth on the ballot, crossed the 75% threshold. Wright’s name was checked on just 6.2% of ballots in his first year in 2024.
As for other names on the ballot with Mets connections:
- Daniel Murphy was one of the three players to not receive a single vote. His name will come off the ballot next year.
- Francisco Rodríguez will stay on the ballot after receiving 11.8% of the vote.
- Analytics darling Bobby Abreu, who finished his career in Queens, amassed 30.8% of the vote.
- Former Met and Cy Young Award winner during his time with the Red Sox, Rick Porcello, will also be off the ballot next year, after receiving just 0.5% of the vote in his first year.
As for some notable Mets adversaries, it was a positive day for Chase Utley, whose 59.1% vote tally puts him in a good position to one day make the Hall. His former teammates Jimmy Rollins and Cole Hamels received 25.4% and 23.8% of the vote, respectively.
Notable names from across town include Andy Pettitte, who benefitted from a big jump to 48.5% of the vote and Álex Rodríguez, who stayed relatively stagnant at 40 percent.
Rounding out the list, Félix Hernández received 46.1% of the vote to stay on the ballot. Also staying on the ballot are Manny Ramirez with 38.8%, Dustin Pedroia with 20.7%, Mark Buehrle with 20% and Torii Hunter with 8.7%.
The other players who did not receive the necessary five percent to stay on the ballot are Ryan Braun, Edwin Encarnación, Shin-Soo Choo, Matt Kemp, Hunter Pence, Alex Gordon, Nick Markakis, Gio Gonzalez and Howie Kendrick.
As for 2027? The notable names who will likely see their names on the ballot for the first time next year include Buster Posey, Jon Lester, Ryan Zimmerman and former Met Jay Bruce.
