How to Interpret the Teen Slang in SNL's 'Snack Homiez' Skit
Saturday Night Live just nailed what it’s like to live with tweens and teens in a new skit. A group of “12-year-old boys” hosted a podcast on SNL’s “Snack Homiez” skit, featuring Sabrina Carpet, Finn Wolfhard, and A$AP Rocky, on Saturday night. And while you could probably keep up with most of their jargon, we’ve broken down some popular teen slang terms to help you understand your kids a little bit better.
Unc
At one point, Chloe Fineman said, “We’re low-key 12-years-old, except Kyler is 13. He’s unc.”
“Unc” is short for “uncle” and is a way to call someone old or out of touch with current trends.
Looksmaxxing, Gigachad
Wolfhard appears on the show, talking about how he is a “looksmaxxing Gigachad” on his Twitch Stream.
“Basically, I discuss mogging, mandibular growth, and achieving sigma status by breaking my jawbone and pulling high-level talent,” he says in the clip.
“Looksmaxxing” refers to a trend where teenage boys will alter their appearance to fit a high standard of masculine ideals, including having surgery. In the same vein, Gigachad is “the ultimate man” according to Urban Dictionary.
Some of the other stuff said in this part include “sigma,” which describes someone who is well-liked and successful, and “mogging,” which means you look better than your peers.
Gooning
When talking about snacks, Carpenter is “gooning for a crusty Uncrustable.” “Gooning” is a sexual term, according to Urban Dictionary, that refers to a man edging himself and becoming obsessed with his own pleasure. In the context of SNL, it would be like saying that you are “horny for a crusty Uncrustable.”
Raw, Gas, Valid
When chatting about deviled eggs, Wolfhard says, “Deviled eggs are fire. Yeah, they’re so raw.”
Carpenter explains later, saying, “They’re raw like they’re gas, bro.” And Fineman clarifies, saying that the snack is “so valid.”
“Raw,” “fire,” “gas,” “valid,” are all slang terms that mean cool, impressive, or awesome.
Zesty, Bodied
When A$AP Rocky joins the show, he tells Unc that he’s “gotta chill with your zesty ass.”
“I just got bodied by A$AP Rocky, that’s so tough,” Unc replies.
“Zesty” is a derogatory term that means “flamboyant” or “gay,” according to Urban Dictionary, while “bodied” means getting “killed” or “destroyed” online or in a figurative sense.
