99,000 Babies are Killed in Abortions Every Month in America
Nearly 99,000 unborn babies are killed in abortions each month nationwide in America.
Why?
That insane figure is fueled by a rampant surge in dangerous and fully unregulated abortion pills mailed across state lines. That’s according to new data released amid growing calls from pro-life advocates to rein in the out-of-control distribution.
The Society of Family Planning, a pro-abortion organization, estimated that the U.S. averaged nearly 99,000 abortions per month during the first half of 2025, marking a roughly 4% increase from 2024. It’s a figure that would be even higher if not for pro-life laws in approximately 20 states that protect babies from abortions. But those laws are being undermined by unlimited sales of abortion pills from out of state and out of the country.

This rise persists more than three years after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, returning protection of babies from abortions to the states, yet pro-life experts say the flood of mail-order pills has undermined state protections for the unborn.
“Telehealth abortions have weakened many of the strong pro-life laws that were enacted in the aftermath of the Dobbs decision,” said Michael New, a professor of social research at the Catholic University of America and an affiliated scholar at the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute. “That said, there is a solid body of research that shows state birth rates are increasing faster in states with strong pro-life laws.”
The data highlights that 27% of abortions occurred through telehealth prescriptions in the first half of 2025, up about 10% in the first six months of 2023. Nearly half of all prescriptions mailed from April 2022 to June 2025 came from abortionists in states with “shield laws” that protect them illegally sending dangerous abortion pills to women in states where abortion is restricted.
Pro-life leaders point to the dangers of mifepristone, the primary drug in chemical abortions, which is used in at least six out of ten abortions in the United States.
“The existential threats to life and human dignity continue, however,” said Rep. Chris Smith, a New Jersey Republican, in a statement. “There is important work to be done in this new year, especially in exposing the risks posed to women and children by the chemical abortion drug mifepristone.”
The Guttmacher Institute, another pro-abortion group, reported that medication abortions accounted for 63% of all abortions in 2023, up from 53% in 2020 and 24% in 2011.
This latest surge builds on earlier findings from the Charlotte Lozier Institute, which analyzed data showing over 1.1 million abortions occurred from July 2023 to June 2024. That figure, drawn from pro-abortion #WeCount and Guttmacher data, established a baseline for recorded abortions but noted limitations due to the lack of federal reporting requirements and untrackable foreign-mailed pills.
“Accurate and up-to-date abortion reporting is crucial not only for public health metrics, but to give us clearer insight into the landscape of abortion in the U.S. post-Dobbs,” said Mia Steupert, a research associate at the Charlotte Lozier Institute. “Abortion reporting provides key insight into how laws affect abortion numbers.”
Karen Czarnecki, executive director of the institute, added: “Our country’s lack of federal abortion reporting requirements has always raised the question: ‘How many abortions are occurring in the U.S.?’
