Tottenham hit with yet another midfield blow for crucial Champions League clash
Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with a fresh blow ahead of their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
The injuries keep piling up for Spurs, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Richarlison now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
To make matters worse, Ben Davies and Archie Gray were forced off with injuries against West Ham, while it also later emerged that Xavi Simons was spotted limping after the final whistle.
It has now been revealed that another Tottenham midfielder may not be at 100 per cent fit for Tuesday’s game.
Pape Sarr may be a doubt for Tottenham’s clash on Tuesday
Pape Sarr is set to return to Tottenham as an African Cup of Nations champion after Senegal won the final against Morocco with a dramatic stoppage-time winner.
The 23-year-old featured just once for his national team through the tournament and would have thus returned with fresh legs.
However, The Athletic’s Jay Harris has shared that the latest news coming from the Senegal camp is that the Tottenham midfielder is not feeling well.
Harris wrote on X: “Senegal’s goalscorer Pape Gueye said that Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr and a couple of other players (I didn’t catch their names) were not feeling well. He wanted to mention them before starting his press conference properly.”
Who will line up in midfield for Spurs against Borussia Dortmund?
Conor Gallagher’s arrival has softened the impact of the recent injury blows domestically, but he is not yet in Tottenham’s official Champions League squad, meaning he is unable to face Dortmund.
Yves Bissouma may be in line for his first start of the season against Burnley after impressing off the bench against West Ham, but he is also ineligible for the Champions League.
If Xavi does not recover in time, Frank may also have to start with Lucas Bergvall as the number ten, which would leave him with hardly any midfield options on the bench.
