Thomas Frank delivers Tottenham injury update with only 11 first-team players available

Thomas Frank has now delivered an injury update on his Tottenham squad ahead of the Borussia Dortmund showdown in the Champions League.

Attention now turns to the UEFA Champions League for Tottenham Hotspur after a rocky couple of weeks in both the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Spurs are currently without a win in their last three outings in all competitions, having lost all three, a run that has placed Thomas Frank under increasing pressure.

The Dane is desperate for a victory against Dortmund, with Tottenham understood to be weighing up a managerial change following their recent defeat to 18th-placed West Ham United.

Another defeat could all but spell the end of Frank’s time in north London, with a member of the Spurs executive team believed to have actively recommended his dismissal, while a three-man managerial shortlist has already been drawn up, as supporter frustration continues to grow.

Thomas Frank’s position has not been helped by the growing injury list Tottenham is dealing with, as availability issues continue to mount at a crucial stage of the season.

Ben Davies was the latest to suffer a serious setback after being stretchered off against West Ham United with a leg injury, joining Mohamed Kudus, who is sidelined until March, and Rodrigo Bentancur, who is expected to spend three months on the sidelines.

Richarlison remains unavailable following a hamstring problem, while Joao Palhinha picked up a knock ahead of the West Ham clash and was not included in the matchday squad.

Archie Gray was a doubt for this Champions League match after appearing to suffer an issue in the West Ham game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but appears to be back fit.

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski also remain sidelined, although the latter could return in February.

Thomas Frank has now addressed the injury situation of his Tottenham squad ahead of their crucial match with Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to Football London, he said: “It’s fair to say I’ve been a little bit limited with the players for this match. We have 11 available players for the game from the normal group.

“This man (Xavi) wasn’t training today because of the bad tackle from Bowen. Not to say he’s a bad guy Bowen, but because of Xavi’s mental strength he will be involved tomorrow. Also if that wasn’t a red card then why was Xavi’s against Liverpool? But that’s another discussion.”

Frank went on to confirm that Joao Palhinha is out injured, and Dominic Solanke has taken Mathys Tel’s place in the Champions League squad, leaving just 11 first-team players available for selection.
