Thomas Frank dismisses Tottenham sack talk as media circus and promises to ‘fight’
Thomas Frank has now shut down growing speculation around his future by dismissing sack talk as noise, with attention turning firmly towards Tottenham Hotspur’s upcoming Champions League test.
Thomas Frank has his work cut out in the Tottenham dugout, with pressure mounting on the Dane as results continue to falter.
Attention now turns to the UEFA Champions League, and Frank will be hoping a change of scenery in a different competition might provide a spark for his inconsistent side.
Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat against West Ham United at the weekend, a result that proved a tipping point for many Tottenham supporters, who could be heard singing that Frank would be sacked by the morning.
The Dane has since retained his position and is expected to lead Spurs once again in the UEFA Champions League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Thomas Frank addresses Tottenham sack speculation
There have been reports suggesting that Thomas Frank’s position is under scrutiny, with claims that Spurs are weighing up a managerial change.
It was also stated that at least one member of the Tottenham executive team is pushing for Frank’s dismissal.
Frank has now addressed the speculation surrounding his future and played down the reports, insisting his focus remains firmly on the task at hand.
Explaining his stance and the backing he feels internally, the Spurs boss told Football.London: “I have just been feeling the trust along the way.
“I have said that every press meeting. I had lunch with Nick, Johan[Lange] and Vinai [Venkatesham]today and all good. I know it is all part of the media circus and the only thing I can do is focus on the Dortmund game.”
When pushed for more information on that lunch, he said: “I haven’t heard anything like that in football where someone says ‘hey mate, if you win tomorrow no problem, if you lose tomorrow no problem’. It was a conversation about life and football. All I would say is if there’s a storm or bad weather people normally run away, they’re not being friendly and having lunch.”
Finally, Thomas Frank added: “When your back is against the wall, you fight.”
Spurs must focus on Champions League qualification
Spurs find themselves in a dire situation in the Premier League, sitting just ten points above 18th-placed West Ham United, a run of form that has fuelled growing supporter frustration.
However, in Europe, the picture is less bleak, with Tottenham still in contention for automatic qualification with two games remaining in the league phase.
A victory could yet lift Spurs into the top eight of the Champions League table with a game to spare, although it remains to be seen whether European progress alone will be enough to ease the pressure Frank is currently under.
