Forget Yan Diomande and Omar Marmoush, these wingers could solve all Tottenham's problems - Opinion

It’s no secret that Tottenham want to add a new winger to their squad this month, but they don’t need to break the bank to solve that pressing issue.

With the sale of Brennan Johnson and the injury to Mohammed Kudus, Tottenham are now looking rather short in the wide areas.

Bringing in a left winger is a priority for Spurs in January, but there are lots of big and very expensive names being linked with the Lilywhites.

There’s talk of Omar Marmoush joining on loan, while Nico Williams has long been touted as a Tottenham target. The issue is that other clubs are eager to sign the Bilbao man, and Pep Guardiola might not let Marmoush leave.

So, here are three solutions that Spurs should look at that will not cost the Earth, and that they might have a clear run at signing.

Three left-wingers Tottenham should target

Sebastian Nanasi could add to Tottenham’s Swedish stars

Tottenham already have a strong Swedish contingent running through their squad with Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski, so why not add another? Strasbourg winger Sebastian Nanasi is only 23-years-old but he’s quickly established himself as one of the most productive players in Ligue 1.

He’s got four goals and two assists in 14 appearances this season, but those numbers would no doubt have been higher had he not suffered a shoulder injury in September. Nanasi is highly creative, has great vision, and is a menace at set-pieces. He’s also versatile enough to play in the number 10 role if needed.

Nanasi has been at Strasbourg for roughly 18 months now, having cost the French side roughly £9.5m. They would obviously want to make a profit there, so you’d be looking at a fee between £15-20m probably. The only thing to watch out for is Chelsea using their BlueCo. influence to steal him first.

Spurs should take a look at Mika Godts

Ajax may be miles off the pace in the Eredivisie this season, but it’s been a wonderful campaign for young Mika Godts so far. The 20-year-old has registered eight goals and eight assists in 24 games and has been a revelation on the left wing for the Dutch giants.

The young Belgian attacker has been likened to his compatriot Eden Hazard thanks to his electric pace and neat dribbling. Mika Godts could be stronger physically, but with the way he plays, it doesn’t really matter. He’s ranked third in the league for goals and assists right now, as well as being fifth for key passes (38) and is top for successful take-ons (35).

We know Spurs are prepared to be patient in the transfer market, but if they move quickly, they might be able to get Godts before the rest of Europe’s elite really starts to pay attention to him. Of the three players on this list, he’s the one I’d go for.

In fact, Tottenham have already been linked to Mika Godts in the transfer window.

Abde Ezzalzouli could bring goals and experience to Tottenham

He’s the oldest player on this list at 24-years-old, but Abde Ezzalzouli comes with vast experience at club and international level; he’s been capped 32 times by Morocco and is currently at the African Cup of Nations.

The Real Betis winger has six goals and five assists in 18 games this season, and currently ranks in the top ten in La Liga for carries into the penalty area (24). Abde Ezzalzouli has been at Betis since 2023, when he signed from Barcelona for around £6.5m.

He’s a right-footed left winger who would suit Tottenham’s system to a tee. Ezzalzouli is fast, strong, loves taking players on, and is effective at creating overloads in the channel. He is sometimes guilty of poor decision-making and his finishing could be a little sharper, and he’d probably be the more expensive option, but with his experience at the top level, it’s worth it.
