NHL roundup: Hat trick for Mika Zibanejad as Rangers ground Flyers

Mika Zibanejad notched a hat trick to lift the visiting New York Rangers to a much-needed 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon.

Artemi Panarin contributed two goals and an assist for New York and Brennan Othmann scored his first NHL goal. Rangers goaltender Spencer Martin finished with 25 saves.

With his second hat trick this month, Zibanejad tied Bill Cook (nine) for the most in franchise history. He also broke the franchise record with his 117th career power-play goal, helping New York snap a five-game losing streak (0-4-1).

Philadelphia entered in a similar slump but watched its skid reach six games (0-5-1). After allowing goals on each of the first three shots he faced, Aleksei Kolosov was pulled in favor of Samuel Ersson, who turned aside 22 shots. Travis Konecny, Travis Sanheim and Trevor Zegras each had a goal and an assist for the Flyers.

Blue Jackets 4, Penguins 3 (SO)

Charlie Coyle scored the winning goal in the shootout to keep new Columbus coach Rick Bowness' record perfect by edging host Pittsburgh.

Zach Aston-Reese, Danton Heinen and Kirill Marchenko scored goals as the Blue Jackets won their fourth straight overall to move Bowness to 3-0-0 this week since taking the job Monday.

Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist, and Connor Clifton and Rickard Rakell tallied for the Penguins. Pittsburgh's rally extended its home point streak against one opponent to 19 games (16-0-3), the NHL's longest active stretch.

Oliers 6, Canucks 0

Kasperi Kapanen and Jack Roslovic had two goals each in a six-goal second period to give Edmonton a blowout victory over host Vancouver, which is still looking for its first win of 2026.

Zach Hyman and Vasily Podkolzin also scored, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two assists and Tristan Jarry stopped 31 shots for his second shutout of the season. The Oilers have won four of their last five games on the road.

Nikita Tolopilo made 29 saves for the hapless Canucks, who suffered their franchise-record tying 10th straight loss. Tolopilo got the nod in goal after starter Kevin Lankinen was scratched due to an illness.

Mammoth 6, Kraken 3

Nate Schmidt scored twice, including the go-ahead goal, and added two assists as Utah defeated Seattle in Salt Lake City.

Lawson Crouse added a goal and two assists, Kevin Stenlund, Nick Schmaltz and Barrett Hayton also scored for the Mammoth, who extended their point streak to seven games (6-0-1). Goaltender Karel Vejmelka made 18 saves.

Matty Beniers had a goal and an assist and Jordan Eberle and Chandler Stephenson also scored for Seattle, which went 1-3-1 on its five-game trip. Philipp Grubauer stopped 24 of 29 shots.

Maple Leafs 4, Jets 3 (OT)

Toronto completed a comeback from two goals down in the third period to top host Winnipeg as Toronto registered a point for the 12th time in 13 games.

Max Domi scored in overtime on a 2-on-1 off Auston Matthews' perfectly placed pass through the slot. Oliver Ekman-Larsson recorded a goal and two assists on the Leafs' blue line, while teammates Matthews, Domi and Morgan Rielly also had multi-point games.

Alex Iafallo, Kyle Connor and Nino Niederreiter scored for the Jets, and Vladislav Namestnikov tallied two assists for the home team.

Hurricanes 4, Devils 1

Andrei Svechnikov scored a hat trick as Carolina beat New Jersey in a gritty battle in Newark.

Sebastian Aho tallied the primary assist on all three of Svechnikov's goals and Frederik Andersen made 29 saves for the Hurricanes, who were playing on the tail end of a back-to-back. Carolina exploded for a 9-1 home win against the Florida Panthers on Friday night.

Timo Meier scored the lone goal and Jacob Markstrom made 31 saves for the Devils, who hadn't played since a 3-2 overtime win at home against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday. New Jersey has lost seven of its last eight games against Carolina.

Wild 5, Sabres 4 (OT)

Mats Zuccarello scored a power-play goal in overtime for Minnesota, which snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory in Buffalo.

Zuccarello, Vladimir Tarasenko and Quinn Hughes each had a goal and an assist and Marcus Foligno and Ryan Hartman also scored a goal for the Wild. Kirill Kaprizov had three assists, including one on the game winner.

Jack Quinn and Ryan McLeod each scored a goal with an assist for the Sabres, with Peyton Krebs and Alex Tuch also scoring goals. Jason Zucker assisted on a pair of goals as Buffalo earned a point for the 16th time over its last 18 games (15-2-1) despite losing in overtime for the first time since Nov. 4.

Flames 4, Islanders 2

Adam Klapka collected one goal and one assist to pace Calgary to a victory over New York to open a five-game homestand.

Yegor Sharangovich, Justin Kirkland and Yan Kuznetsov also scored for the Flames, who staked a four-goal lead and held on to victory. Goaltender Dustin Wolf made 28 saves, including a clutch stop on Jonathan Drouin in the first minute of the second period when his team held a 1-0 lead.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Anders Lee replied for the Islanders, who have dropped two of three outings and have two more clashes remaining in their seven-game road trip. Goalie David Rittich stopped 15 shots and Matthew Schaefer netted two assists.

Canadiens 6, Senators 5 (OT)

Cole Caufield scored his second goal of the game, a slapshot off an assist from Lane Hutson 33 seconds into overtime, to give Montreal the win in Ottawa.

Caufield's winning tally completed a furious rally for the Canadiens, who trailed by two goals with less than five minutes to play in regulation. Juraj Slafkovsky, who also had two goals, and Alexandre Carrier scored 1:05 apart late in the third period to even the game as Montreal ended a brief two-game losing streak and improved to 2-1-1 in its last four games.

Jake Sanderson scored one goal and assisted on three others to lead the Senators, who lost for the first time in three games but fell to 2-4-1 in their last seven.

Panthers 5, Capitals 2

Sam Bennett had a goal and two assists to lead Florida to a win over host Washington one night after the team was soundly defeated 9-1 by Carolina.

A.J. Greer had a goal and an assist, and Anton Lundell, Carter Verhaeghe and defenseman Uvis Balinskis also scored for the Panthers. Sam Reinhart had two assists and Daniil Tarasov made 22 saves.

Defenseman Jakob Chychrun scored both goals for the Capitals, who lost their third in four games. Defenseman John Carlson had two assists and Logan Thompson stopped 26 shots.

Golden Knights 7, Predators 2

Mark Stone extended his point streak to a career-best 11 games with his 10th goal in those 11 games and Vegas scored five goals in the third period to rout Nashville in Las Vegas.

Shea Theodore, Mitch Marner, Alexander Holtz, Cole Reinhardt and Keegan Kolesar each had a goal and an assist and Pavel Dorofeyev also scored for the Golden Knights, who extended their winning streak to a season-high seven games. Akira Schmid made 27 saves to pick up his 15th win.

Luke Evangelista and Filip Forsberg scored goals and Roman Josi had two assists for the Predators, who had a three-game win streak snapped. Justus Annunen finished with 29 saves.

Bruins 5, Blackhawks 2

Mason Lohrei posted his first career multi-goal game as visiting Boston came from behind with five unanswered goals to defeat Chicago.

Charlie McAvoy, Viktor Arvidsson and Marat Khusnutdinov also scored for the Bruins, who have won six straight and eight of their last nine games.

The Blackhawks' Ryan Greene and Wyatt Kaiser each netted a goal while Arvid Soderblom stopped 18 shots. Chicago is on a three-game skid and has lost four of five.

Ducks 2, Kings 1 (OT)

Mikael Granlund scored with 58 seconds remaining in overtime and Anaheim extended its winning streak to three games with an overtime victory at home over rival Los Angeles.

Granlund scored on a breakaway after rookie Beckett Sennecke forced a turnover as the Ducks earned their second victory over the Kings in as many days after winning 3-2 in a shootout at Los Angeles on Friday. Mason McTavish added a goal for Anaheim, and Ville Husso made 17 saves in his second start this month while earning a win for the first time since Dec. 9.

Adrian Kempe scored a goal for the Kings and Anton Forsberg made 31 saves, as Los Angeles saw its losing streak extend to four games (0-1-3) to match its longest this season. The Kings lost for the sixth time in their past seven games (1-2-4).
