Harry Maguire breaks silence on Manchester United future in latest interview
Harry Maguire has broken his silence on his future at Manchester United.
The 32-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford will expire in the summer, with the club triggering the one-year extension clause in his deal last year.
United may not renew Maguire’s contract and let him leave on a free transfer at the end of this season.
They have reportedly identified Nottingham Forest’s Murillo as a replacement for the England international.
Murillo penned a new contract with Forest in January last year, but he is open to a bigger challenge away from the City Ground next summer.
Maguire opened up about his future at Old Trafford in a recent interview to Sky Sports.
The centre-back insisted he is ‘comfortable’ with his current situation and is more focused on doing well for his team.
He said: “Now there is too much going on to be honest. I am comfortable where I am. Obviously I have been out injured in the last few weeks and I have been focusing on getting back fit to help the team. It’s been disappointing being sat watching the games when I know I could have made a difference.
“So I have just been focusing on getting back fit and getting back playing and it will look after itself.”
Maguire joined United in 2019 from Leicester City in a deal worth £80 million.
He has since made 256 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and creating nine assists in the process.
The experienced defender featured in 27 Premier League matches last season, but injury issues have limited his involvement this term.
Maguire has started only five top-flight games after picking up a thigh injury during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in November.
He has now recovered and is poised to be part of Michael Carrick’s starting XI on Saturday against Manchester City.
Maguire is a top centre-back who is known for his physicality, aerial dominance and leadership qualities.
But he has turned 32 and it is uncertain if United would give him a new contract.
