Kristi Noem Impeachment Effort: Where Things Stand Right Now
A Democratic push to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem is gaining traction in the House of Representatives.

However, procedurally, the resolution remains in the earliest stages. As it stands, it has been formally introduced and referred to the House Judiciary Committee, and no vote scheduled at this time.
Where things currently stand
Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) introduced the impeachment resolution on January 14. Supporters cite three primary articles of impeachment: obstruction of Congress, violation of public trust, and self-dealing.
According to the official Library of Congress website, more than 80 House Democrats are currently backing the effort.
“Secretary Noem has brought her reign of terror to the Chicago land area, L.A., New Orleans, Charlotte, Durham, and communities north to south to east to west. She needs to be held accountable for her actions,” Kelly said during a press conference, per Time. “Renee Nicole Good is dead because Secretary Noem allowed her DHS agents to run amok. Families are forever torn apart.”
Despite growing Democratic support, the House remains GOP-controlled, making the path to impeachment a challenging one.
A DHS rep dismissed the effort as “silly” in a statement to Newsweek.
Some Democrats and centrist lawmakers have also raised concerns about whether pursuing impeachment is the most effective strategy right now.
