Popular Greens Powder Recalled for Salmonella Contamination.
The FDA issued a recall on a green powder sold across the United States due to possible Salmonella contamination. So far, 45 people have reported illnesses, and 12 people required hospitalization after drinking the original and wild berry flavors. If you have this supplement in your home or gym, throw away greens with expiration dates ranging from Aug. 2026 to Jan. 2028.
These states have reported illnesses: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.
The recall includes the following products:
- Live it Up Super Greens, NET WT 8.5 oz (240g) with UPC 860013190804
- Live it Up Super Greens, 30 – 0.28oz (8g) sticks, NET WT. 8.47 oz (240g) with UPC 850077468063
- Live it Up Super Greens, Wild Berry, NET WT 8.5OZ (240g), with UPC 860013190811
- Live it Up Super Greens, Wild Berry, 30 – 0.32oz (9g) Sticks, NET WT. 9.52oz (270g), with UPC 850077468070
Salmonella infections can be deadly in people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include:
- Dehydration
- Fever
- Bloody diarrhea
- Nausea
- Stomach pain
- Vomiting
If Salmonella gets in your bloodstream, you are at risk for aneurysms, inflammation of the inner lining of the heart’s chambers and valves, and arthritis, according to the FDA. The CDC recommends cleaning any surfaces that might have had the product on them with hot, soapy water and sanitizing the area.
Live It Up states that one scoop equals 3 cups of vegetables and that it is made in the United States with globally sourced ingredients and uses good manufacturing practices. The Live it Up website also states that the superfood is third-party tested for safety. Additionally, the original and wild berry flavors are still listed on the website, but labeled as out of stock, not recalled.
