One in Seven Christian Colleges Promotes Abortion, Planned Parenthood
More than one in seven Christian colleges and universities in the United States maintain ties to the abortion industry or Planned Parenthood, according to a new report from Students for Life of America’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement.
The annual investigation, now in its fourth year, reviewed 725 institutions affiliated with Christ-centered denominations that publicly claim a historical Christian faith in their founding.
It identified 114 schools — or 15.7% — with some form of relationship to the abortion industry, documenting 533 total infractions.
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, expressed dismay at the findings in a statement accompanying the report’s release in January 2026.

Hawkins said, “More than one in seven Christian colleges in America are actively promoting abortion on their campuses right now.”
The report noted a sharp rise in such connections, with support for abortion increasing by nearly 116% since the previous year and by about 39% since the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
“You’d think that after the fall of Roe, Christian colleges would have immediately sprung into action to begin mobilizing to save lives,” Hawkins said. “But the exact opposite happened. Instead of standing stronger for Life after our historic Supreme Court victory, too many Christian schools are actually moving CLOSER to Planned Parenthood.”
Infractions included listing Planned Parenthood as a “trusted health resource,” offering academic credit for internships at Planned Parenthood, hosting pro-abortion speakers or events, referring pregnant students to Planned Parenthood for “pregnancy resources” and highlighting alumni working in the abortion industry as success stories.
The most common violation — over one-fourth of infractions — involved referring students to Planned Parenthood as a health resource.
Class materials promoting Planned Parenthood or the abortion industry accounted for 25.5%, and internship opportunities made up 22.7%.Hawkins provided examples:
- Rhodes College in Tennessee, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, lists Planned Parenthood as an internship opportunity for eight different majors.
- Macalester College in Minnesota states in its health center’s “Reproductive Justice Statement” that it provides “all-options counseling,” including referrals for pregnancy termination.
- Hope College in Michigan lists “abortion counselor” as a possible career path for sociology majors.
- Emory University in Georgia is co-leading a research study aimed at improving abortion access.
- Saint Mary’s College of California, a Catholic institution, lists Planned Parenthood alongside OB-GYN specialists as a pregnancy resource.
Hawkins emphasized that the issue extends beyond isolated links.
“This isn’t just about a webpage link to Planned Parenthood somewhere on their website,” she said. “These 114 Christian schools are actively funneling students into the abortion industry.”
The report also highlighted some positive developments, noting that since launching its “Kick Planned Parenthood Off Christian Campuses” campaign, Students for Life has helped remove 100 abortion industry connections from Christian campuses, including 50 since 2024.
Examples include Abilene Christian University removing Planned Parenthood as an internship opportunity and the University of St. Thomas removing Planned Parenthood from its career development webpage.
Hawkins called for action from alumni, parents, donors and others to pressure schools to sever ties.
“When Christian college leaders hear from concerned alumni, parents, donors, and pro-lifers like you, they listen,” she said. “The simple truth is this: if we lose the battle for the heart and soul of American Christianity, literally nothing else the Pro-Life Movement does will matter.”
The full report, including school ratings from A+ to F and a list of institutions with infractions, is available through Students for Life of America and the Demetree Institute.
