“I want to be ready for Week 1. The doctors said that I could be,” he continued. “I can’t predict what’s going to happen throughout the process, but that’s my goal. I’ll try to prepare myself to be ready to play in that Week 1 and have no restrictions.”
Patrick went on to say that he’s hopeful that he’ll be able to in OTAs (Organized Team Activities) and training camp in some capacity over the summer.
“I have to take it slow, but at the same time I’ll push to be out there as much as I can be,” he explained. “We have a great plan in place as far as where we want to get to. We have to let it all play out and take it a day at a time, which has been hard for me.”
While discussing the mental toll the injury has taken on him, Patrick credited his work ethic, wife Brittany Mahomes, and their three children.
“It definitely weighs on your mental a little bit,” he admitted. “But for me, just having that goal in mind of trying to get better every day and knowing what I’m striving to do — which is to be ready as quickly as possible and have a chance to play in that opening day game, no matter where it is, so that I’m there with my teammates and can be at training camp and doing what I need to do — think that’s kind of pushed me through some of those mental hurdles.”
Patrick continued, “That, as well as having a great wife that’s able to keep me involved with the kids. And the kids understanding that dad can’t necessarily be the dad that I usually am throwing them around the couches and stuff like that.”
Just recently, Patrick‘s teammate, Travis Kelce, reacted to his injury.
