Malen to Roma: more deal details revealed, including future Aston Villa fee
Donyell Malen’s permanent move to Roma in the summer depends on the striker’s number of appearances and the Giallorossi’s qualification for European competition, while Aston Villa retain a fee on future transfer.
Roma announced Malen’s loan move from Aston Villa on Friday.
Malen to Roma: transfer details revealed
It’s technically a temporary transfer, but the conditions for Roma’s obligation to buy are accessible, making Malen’s return to Aston Villa in the summer highly unlikely.
Gazzetta reports that Roma will make the striker’s move permanent if he makes 50% appearances across all competitions, playing at least 35 minutes in each.
Furthermore, Roma will have to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League, an objective which is entirely within Roma’s reach as Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have an eight-point lead over seventh-placed Atalanta.
Aston Villa will also receive 10% of any future capital gain made through Malen’s sale.
It’s slightly different from a straight 10% sell-on clause on the striker’s future transfer fee, as this one applies to earnings made by Roma if they sell Malen in the coming years.
Malen set to become Roma starting striker
Malen is expected to become Roma’s starting striker in the second part of the campaign and is expected to break into the Giallorossi XI as soon as next Sunday when the Giallorossi visit Torino.
Roma have paid circa €2m for the striker’s six-month loan, while the option to buy is set at circa 25m.
