Newcastle United in talks to sign versatile England international
Newcastle United have reportedly had some contacts to be informed of a potential transfer opportunity for AC Milan midfielder and former Chelsea ace Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The 29-year-old, who has 11 England caps, has long been rated as a potentially big talent, though he’s under-achieved in his career so far for a number of reasons.
Loftus-Cheek has struggled with injuries, and it’s also fair to say his versatility has possibly worked against him at times, as he’s never really nailed down one position.
Still, it seems Newcastle now have an interest in bringing Loftus-Cheek back to the Premier League, according to TEAMtalk, with intermediaries discussing a possible loan move.
Can Newcastle win the race to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek?
Newcastle could do well to strengthen their midfield options this January, and Loftus-Cheek has proven himself at the very highest level.
The ex-Blue won the Premier League title and Europa League during his time at Stamford Bridge, while he’s also picked up the Supercoppa Italiana during his stint with Milan.
It will be interesting, however, to see if Newcastle establish themselves as favourites for Loftus-Cheek, with TEAMtalk also mentioning other suitors such as Manchester United, Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham, and Sunderland.
One in, one out in Newcastle’s midfield this January?
These links with Loftus-Cheek come as another midfielder could be heading out of St James’ Park this month.
According to Football Insider, NUFC ace Joe Willock could be leaving as he has interest from Crystal Palace and Leeds United.
Willock has struggled to play regularly for Newcastle in recent times, so it could make sense for Eddie Howe to shift him out and bring in a possible upgrade in the form of Loftus-Cheek.
