Cate Blanchett Returning as Valka in 'How to Train Your Dragon 2' Live-Action Movie
Cate Blanchett is reprising a fan-favorite role!
On Thursday (January 15), it was announced that the 56-year-old two-time Oscar winner will be returning as Valka for the upcoming How to Train Your Dragon 2 live-action movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
She will now be the second actor from the animated movies to reprise their role in the live-action movies behind Gerard Butler.
Keep reading to find out more…Valka is the long-lost mother of Hiccup, and wife of Viking leader Stoick the Vast. Gerard, 56, voiced Stoick in the animated movies and is reprising the part in the live-action iterations.
Cate first voiced Valka in the 2014 animated movie How to Train Your Dragon 2 then again in 2019′s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
The first live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie was released in June 2025.
The live-action remake lead Mason Thames will be returning to play Hiccup in the upcoming sequel alongside Gerard, Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and Harry Trevaldwyn.
As of right now, How to Train Your Dragon 2 is scheduled to be released on June 11, 2027.
