Spotify Raising Prices! How the Hike Compares to Apple Music, Amazon Music, and More
Another year, another media service is raising subscription costs. After Paramount+ recently announced plans to hike the price of its basic and premium subscriptions by a dollar, Spotify announced on January 15 that it’s following suit. Specifically, the music streaming service put out a statement to premium subscribers that read:
“Thank you for being a valued Premium subscriber. Starting on your billing date in February, your subscription price will change from $11.99/month to $12.99/month. We’re updating our pricing to keep delivering a great experience.”
The statement concludes with the Spotify team thanking subscribers for choosing their service, while including a link to remind Premium subscribers of everything that comes with their plan. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the ad-supported basic plan is still available for free.
How Does the Spotify Price Hike Compare to Apple Music, Amazon Music, and More?
According to Spotify, the platform is “the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service with more than 713 million users, including 281 million subscribers in more than 180 markets.” While it may be the largest music streaming service around, it’s not the only one. So if you were hoping to save a little money listening to your favorite artists, we looked around at comparable subscription plans.
Apple Music
A juggernaut in the music world is no doubt Apple Music. Its comparable Premium tier is the ad-free Individual plan, and that runs about $10.99/month. And despite what people may think, just because Apple Music is a platform created by Apple, Android users certainly can download the app.
Amazon Music
Without a Prime membership, Amazon Music costs $11.99/month. With a Prime membership, you can save a dollar a month. The nice thing about an Amazon Music subscription is that it comes with access to Audible, allowing subscribers the chance to download one audiobook each month.
YouTube Music
YouTube may have built a reputation in the video space, but it continues to gain a fan base with subscribers. The pricetag on a subscription is $10.99/month. What YouTube Music has over its competitors is access to unreleased tracks from some of the world’s most popular artists.
