Special events: Radiance & Reverie film series continues
The Radiance & Reverie film series will continue at the Toledo Museum of Art on Saturday with a showing of the 2002 musical Chicago. Starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Richard Gere, the film explores themes of celebrity as Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly await trial on murder charges in 1920s Chicago. The Bob Fosse musical on which the film is based visited the Stranahan Theater last year. Caryl Flinn, a professor at the University of Michigan, will talk before the screening about how, according to a description, “the movie musical has relied on spectacle and glamour to attract audiences” specifically through jewelry which is part of Chicago’s famed “razzle-dazzle.” The screening begins at 2 p.m. in the GlasSalon, 2445 Monroe St.
