Rules for protest committee volunteers – Information Sessions – RIYC
22nd Jan, 29th Jan, 4th Feb. 19.00 Royal Irish Yacht Club
Sailing is a self-policing sport. When an incident between boats cannot be resolved on the water a group of experienced sailors with knowledge of the rules is called upon; the protest committee.
Clubs in Dublin Bay have a long tradition of protests being heard by active club members, often assisted by a qualified Irish Sailing Judge. These sessions will present the essential rules needed to understand incidents on the water and decide if a rule has been broken.
The series of 3 evening sessions are open to any sailor who wishes to volunteer for protest committees in their club or at events. This is not a recognised Irish Sailing Course, but participants who follow the sessions assiduously should have a level of rules knowledge to pass the Irish Sailing pre-entry test to train as a Regional Judge.
These sessions are free of charge. Participants will be expected to have a copy the 2025-2028 rule book (available for purchase at the session.
