Sports Briefs: Redwood boys edge San Rafael in OT
Jake Post put up six points in overtime to lead Redwood High to a thrilling 65-60 boys basketball victory over San Rafael High on Tuesday. Post finished with 19 points for the Giants (6-10, 2-0 MCAL), who got 17 points from Leo Centeno, who hit five 3-pointers.
Luke Shapiro scored a game-high 33 points for the Bulldogs, while Jax Aguillon pumped in 14 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime. San Rafael (11-9, 0-2) rallied in the fourth quarter to outscore the Giants 14-7 and tie the game at 51 at the end of regulation.
- Brian Wright had a big night with 27 points in Archie Williams High’s 59-55 victory over the Branson School on Tuesday. Wright added eight rebounds and two blocks to his line, while Grady Stewart added nine rebounds and six assists. Ephraim Sohn and Meezy Butler came through with clutch shooting in the stretch for the Peregrine Falcons (13-4, 2-0). Sohn finished with nine points, while Butler had eight points, five rebounds and six assists.
- Marin Catholic (14-2, 1-0) jumped ahead early and held on for a 58-48 victory over San Marin (10-8, 1-1) in Tuesday’s MCAL showdown.
- Henry Bennett scored a team-high 17 points as Tam High (10-9, 1-1) rolled to a 68-52 victory over Terra Linda (9-6, 0-2) in Mill Valley on Tuesday. Arman Saluki added 14 points for the Red-tailed Hawks, who also got 12 points from Cole Bester and eight from Porthos Oliveira.

Dylan Garcia and Tallan Clahan scored for San Marin and Marin Catholic, respectively, as the teams split the points following a 1-1 draw on Tuesday. Eliezer Calderon had the assist for the Mustangs (0-6-4, 0-0-1) and Rhys Jones had the assist for the Wildcats (4-3-2, 0-1-1).
- San Rafael scored three times in the second half en route to a 5-2 victory against Redwood on Tuesday. The Bulldogs (6-2-5, 2-0-0) climbed into sole possession of first place with six points. San Rafael and Redwood (3-2-3, 1-1-0) were tied 2-2 at the half. Williams Reyes scored in the second minute to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Redwood scored the next two then Frisly Reyes tied the game for the Bulldogs. Cal Stewart gave San Rafael the lead for good in the 50th minute. Williams Reyes scored his second goal in the 63rd, assisted by Joey Navarrette. Dylan Maldonaldo capped the scoring on Navarrette’s second assist of the night.
