Trump urges Iranians to keep protesting, seize institutions, says help is on the way
U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iranian protesters to press on, seize government institutions and document abuses, saying help is on the way as unrest intensifies.
Donald Trump on Tuesday urged Iranian protesters to continue demonstrations and seize government institutions, sharply escalating his rhetoric amid growing unrest in Iran.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, the U.S. president called on what he described as “Iranian patriots” to document abuses by security forces, warning that those responsible would “pay a heavy price.”
Trump said he had canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until what he called the “senseless killing” of protesters stops, adding that assistance to demonstrators was “on the way.”
Iranian authorities have not responded to Trump’s latest remarks. Previously, Tehran accused the United States and Israel of turning peaceful protests into what it described as “terrorist operations.”
Trump has earlier warned Iranian leaders against using lethal force on demonstrators, threatening severe consequences if the crackdown continued.
Protests have gripped Iran for more than two weeks, evolving from scattered demonstrations into a broader anti-government movement that has increasingly turned violent.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that around 2,000 people have been killed, blaming “terrorists” for attacks on both civilians and police forces.
Human rights groups, however, accuse Iran’s government of widespread repression and say the death toll could be far higher, as authorities maintain tight control over information and media coverage.
