Bears promote LT Braxton Jones from injured reserve
The Bears promoted left tackle Braxton Jones from injured reserve and signed linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin to the active roster Tuesday afternoon.
They take the place of two Bears starters who were lost for the season on Saturday night — linebacker T.J. Edwards, who broke his leg, and left tackle Ozzy Trapilo, who has a patellar tendon injury. Both went on IR on Tuesday.
Jones — who hurt his knee in Week 7 — figures to back up Theo Benedet, who took Trapilo’s place during the 31-27 win against the Packers. Jones began the season as the starter before Benedet took his place.
Reeves-Maybin played in three games for the Bears before being signed to their practice squad before the first-round playoff game. Reeves-Maybin played eight defensive snaps Saturday, with D'Marco Jackson taking most of Edwards' downs.
The Bears filled Reeves-Maybin’s practice squad spot with linebacker Nephi Sewell, who played 30 career games for the Saints, most under current Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Sewell’s brother Noah is the Bears linebacker who went on IR late last month after tearing his Achilles’ tendon. Another brother, Penei, is the Lions' star tackle.
