Motorcyclist dies on Vasco Road near Livermore
LIVERMORE — A motorcyclist died Monday morning after crashing on Vasco Road, authorities said.
Authorities on Tuesday were still trying to identify the man, believed to be in his 70s.
The California Highway Patrol said that just after 5 a.m. Monday the man, who was wearing a helmet, was riding south on Vasco Road north of Dyer Road when for reasons still under investigation, he left his traffic lane, crossed over into the northbound lane and crashed into a guard rail. The impact caused him to be ejected and land down an embankment.
The motorcycle continued to roll a significant distance before finally stopping and blocking the northbound lane, the CHP said.
It took officers and firefighters more than 20 minutes to locate the motorcyclist, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A Sig Alert was issued while the CHP investigated, causing a major vehicle backup. It was lifted just before 8 a.m.
Anyone with information about the crash may call the CHP Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
