'My father's dream...': Yan Diomande makes it clear which club he wants to join and it's not Tottenham
Tottenham’s hopes of signing Yan Diomande have been hit with a hammer blow as the player himself actively told another Premier League club to sign him.
Diomande is just one of many wingers to be linked with Tottenham Hotspur over the last month or so, and given his impressive form for RB Leipzig it’s easy to see why.
He has seven goals and four assists in Germany this season, proving Leipzig were right to snap him up from Leganes in the summer.
Despite only joining Leipzig six months ago, it was hoped Diomande could end up being on the list of deals Tottenham complete in the January window. Now, that looks like an impossible dream.
What Tottenham target Yan Diomande said about transfer ambitions
Taking to TikTok to answer some questions, Diomande himself essentially sent a come-and-get-me plea to Liverpool.
He said: “I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big Liverpool fan. My father’s dream is to see me play for Liverpool.”
The Reds had been scouting the Ivory Coast star already, so this comment will surely spur on a move to Anfield in the future.
Either way, it’s clear the teenager wants to play in the Premier League, but it sounds like Tottenham stand little chance of getting a deal done.
Spurs shouldn’t waste their time on Diomande
How many times have we seen this kind of situation play out? Tottenham track a player, and then a more favourable suitor comes along and steals them away from the Lilywhites.
It happened in the summer with Ebere Eze, to the point where Spurs thought a deal was done before Arsenal swooped in and hijacked the move.
While it may be defeatist to give up on Yan Diomande already, it’s surely not worth Spurs wasting their time trying to tempt a player to join them when he’s so blatantly got ambitions of playing for someone else.
A deal for Diomande would break the bank anyway. Tottenham may as well save themselves the time and money and go for other targets.
