Body pulled from lake identified as missing CPS teacher Linda Brown
A Chicago Public Schools special education teacher has died after being reported missing more than a week ago, the district confirmed.
Linda Brown, 53, was a teacher at Robert Healy Elementary School and was reported missing Jan. 3 by her family after they couldn't reach her and she missed an acupuncture appointment.
"It is with deep sadness that I update you on a situation impacting our community," Principal Erin Kamradt wrote in an email to the school community Monday. "Ms. Linda Brown, one of our teachers, has passed away. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. We know that this loss will raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students."
Chicago police confirmed Brown was "located" and confirmed police recovered a woman's body from Lake Michigan near the 3100 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive about noon Monday. The woman, who police didn't immediately identify as Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified Brown's body and said an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
Brown's husband, Antwon, told ABC7 he last saw his wife Jan. 2.
"Everything was fine. Next morning I woke up, it was like 8:35 a.m., and she was gone. No sign of her. I thought she went to acupuncture because she goes to acupuncture on Saturdays,” he said.
