Marin theft suspect sentenced in regional probe
A defendant has been sentenced in connection with a retail theft spree in Marin and 10 other counties in Northern California.
Shawn Andre Naputi, 43, committed the crimes from October 2023 to May 2025, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted him. The Bay Area crimes involved more than 80 thefts for more than $80,000 in merchandise, the prosecution said. The retailers included Best Buy, Boot Barn, REI, Friedman’s Home Improvement, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s, Lowe’s and the Home Depot.
The prosecution charged Naputi with 56 felony counts. The alleged crimes in Marin County occurred at the Home Depot in San Rafael in 2024.
Naputi he accepted a plea offer. He pleaded no contest to six counts in exchange for a sentence of five years and four months. Two years will be served in custody and the rest on mandatory supervision. Naputi was sentenced on Jan. 7 in Santa Rosa.
In addition to Sonoma and Marin counties, the crimes happened in Alameda, Contra Costa, Placer, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Yolo counties, the prosecution said.
