Pete Davidson & Elsie Hewitt Are Glowing on First Parents’ Night Out — & Now Elsie Is Paying for It
Date night didn’t quite go as planned for Elsie Hewitt and Pete Davidson. The couple had their first parents’ night out since welcoming daughter Scottie in December, and despite looking beautiful and happy in pictures from the event, Hewitt was miserable the next day.
It started out great. “mum n dad first night out ????????????,” Hewitt captioned a post on Instagram on Sunday. In the snap, she is all made up with her hair in an updo and a shoulder-baring leopard-print dress on. She hugs baby Scottie in some pictures before they leave, looking so happy with Davidson by her side. Hewitt also included a few photos of her and Davidson in the car on their way out for a date night, and pictures of her in a hoodie at home afterward.
What started off as a wonderful bonding experience turned into a regression in her postpartum recovery, unfortunately. On her Instagram story, Hewitt shared an update on how she felt after her date.
“please know if u gave birth 4 weeks ago and u try to go out … u will likely PAY FOR IT THE NEXT DAY,” she wrote over a picture of her looking miserable on the couch. “I feel like I’m withering away,” she added.
Poor girl! In another post, she got more vulnerable about how drained she was feeling after doing too much too soon.
“Just wanted to be honest about that bc I don’t want to set an unrealistic example or cause any of u other mamas to think you should be going out/hittin the town if you’re not ready ????????????????!!!!” she wrote. “it’s easy to get stir crazy and/or fool yourself into thinking you’re healed but birth is soooo wild and it’s a slow ass recovery and I’m still very much in it.”
Postpartum experiences are not one-size-fits-all. Some moms might already be back at the gym a few weeks after giving birth, while other moms take nearly a year to feel back to normal. Between heavy bleeding, sleep deprivation, physical recovery, mental health changes, and more, there is a lot going on in our bodies after we have a baby. It’s absolutely OK to go out and have some alone time (or a date night), but it’s equally important to rest, listen to your body, and not overdo it. Like pulling a muscle, if you try to go too hard, too fast to get back to how you felt pre-pregnancy, then you risk hurting yourself and making recovery take even longer.
We love that Hewitt is bringing awareness to this and keeping it real when it comes to her postpartum life.
