Rams QB Matt Stafford injures throwing hand, but will be 'good to go' for playoff game vs. Bears
Rams quarterback Matt Stafford, the leading candidate for MVP this season, will play through a sprained index finger on his throwing hand when he visits the Bears on Sunday for a divisional-round playoff game.
Coach Sean McVay said Stafford is “as tough as it gets and will be good to go” against the Bears. He doesn’t expect him to wear any protective gear.
Stafford hit his hand on a player’s helmet on a pass in the first half of the Rams’ 34-31 win over the Panthers in the wild-card round Saturday.
The injury didn’t seem to be a problem as he completed 24 of 42 passes for 304 yards with three touchdown passes and an interception for a 93.8 passer rating. He has thrown for 300 or more yards in seven of his 11 career playoff games.
Stafford, 37, said Saturday the injury “wasn’t pleasant” and he played through it on “adrenaline.”
He finished the regular season with an NFL-best 46 touchdown passes and was second in passer rating at 109.2 — both career highs. He tied former Saints quarterback Drew Brees for the seventh-most touchdown passes in a season.
