Fabrizio Romano reveals why Mathys Tel could swap Tottenham for Paris in January
A Ligue 1 club are looking to sign Mathys Tel on loan from Tottenham Hotspur this month after a lack of game time under Thomas Frank.
Given his struggles for game time and his omission from the original Champions League squad, it was previously reported that Tel could be loaned out by Tottenham this month.
However, the 20-year-old has turned over a new leaf in the last couple of weeks, emerging as one of Spurs’ better players.
Tel was even named in the Premier League Team of the Week last week despite Tottenham’s 3-2 loss to Bournemouth.
Mathys Tel desire revealed as Tottenham make stance clear
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Paris FC are now trying to sign the forward on loan until the end of the season.
The Ligue 1 side have made multiple approaches already for Tel, but Spurs have insisted that they want to keep the youngster at the club.
Interestingly, Romano adds that Tel wants to play regularly until the end of the season as he is dreaming of making France’s World Cup squad.
The journalist wrote on X: “Understand Paris FC are among clubs keen on signing Mathys Tel on loan this month, several approaches already. Tottenham insist they want Tel to stay, Mathys wants to play regularly as dreams of a World Cup call.”
Will Spurs consider letting Tel leave?
There is no doubt that Tel would benefit from playing week-in, week-out for a few months elsewhere. However, with Mohammed Kudus injured, Thomas Frank is not blessed with a lot of good options out wide.
At the same time, it continues to be reported that Spurs are keen on adding another top-class winger to their squad.
Tottenham may not want to weaken themselves by letting go of the former Bayern Munich man, but they face having an unhappy player on their hands if they block a January move, and he struggles to make regular starts at N17.
