Radu Dragusin transfer saga takes a twist as Tottenham make surprising decision - journalist
It seems that Tottenham are all about offloading players this month, but the speculation linking Radu Dragusin with an exit may be put to bed now.
Ever since joining Tottenham back in January 2024, Radu Dragusin has played second fiddle to first-choice centre-halves Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
In fact, since Kevin Danso joined the Lilywhites, Dragusin has fallen further down the pecking order. It’s not surprising, then, that the Romanian has been continually linked with a move away from Spurs.
However, we do know that Dragusin didn’t want to downgrade this month and would only move to a top club. When Roma came calling, he must have thought he had found the ideal next step.
Tottenham knock back Roma approach for Radu Dragusin
Roma hoped to sign Dragusin on loan with an obligation to buy, but that deal may well be dead in the water now.
That’s according to Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones, who claims Tottenham are the ones who have killed the deal after rejecting Roma’s offer.
It’s unclear exactly why Spurs have knocked the approach back. Perhaps the finances involved weren’t right, or maybe Thomas Frank is just keen to keep as many players at the club as possible before finding replacements.
This update will be a blow to the player’s agent, Florin Manea, who had said this week that Dragusin would be a good fit at Roma.
Keeping Dragusin until the summer is the right move
While it is thought Dragusin wants to leave in order to get regular minutes, letting him go just wouldn’t make sense for Spurs in this current moment.
Tottenham have seemingly been struggling through an injury crisis for the last two years, and it feels like any player could be struck down next.
If Spurs were to sanction an exit for Dragusin and then someone like Romero, van de Ven or Danso got injured, the Lilywhites would be filled with regret.
It may not be ideal for the player, but Tottenham need Dragusin for a little while longer.
