Six Pakistani Police Killed in Roadside Bomb Attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Six Pakistani police officers were killed when a roadside bomb hit their armored vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, officials said.
Six Pakistani police officers were killed on Monday, January 12, when a roadside bomb struck their armored vehicle in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local security officials said.
A police spokesperson said the blast occurred near the Gomal security checkpoint, targeting a vehicle carrying police personnel during routine movement. No group immediately claimed responsibility.
In a separate development, Pakistan’s government said joint operations by police and the Counter Terrorism Department killed eight suspected militants across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thwarting what officials described as a major planned attack on Sunday.
According to Pakistani media citing security officials, the suspected militants were tracked and killed in several locations, including Bannu district, during intelligence-based operations.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen a surge in militant attacks in recent months, with security forces frequently targeted by roadside bombs, ambushes and suicide attacks.
The province borders Afghanistan and has long been affected by insurgency, with authorities blaming banned militant groups for exploiting rugged terrain and porous borders to launch attacks.
Pakistan has intensified counterterrorism operations nationwide following a rise in violence, particularly against police and security personnel in the northwest.
Authorities said investigations into Monday’s bombing are ongoing, while security has been tightened across the province to prevent further attacks.
