Man dies in Oakland traffic collision, second driver arrested
OAKLAND — A traffic collision in East Oakland Sunday night left one driver dead and the other under arrest, authorities said.
Police have not yet released the names of the 55-year-old man killed or the man who was arrested.
The two-vehicle collision happened about 7:04 p.m. Sunday in the 4400 block of Oakport Street near the on-ramp to southbound Interstate 880.
According to initial police reports, the 55-year-old man was driving a Nissan pickup truck eastbound on Oakport Street attempting to enter the freeway. The other man, who police said was unlicensed, was driving a Nissan Altima westbound on Oakport Street and failed to yield to the pickup truck before the vehicles collided, authorities said.
The 55-year-old man died at the scene.
The Nissan Altima driver remained and was arrested, but police have not yet said for what charges.
