“Eric Swalwell is a Wannabe Tyrant!” — Gateway Pundit Reporter Joel Gilbert Thrown Out at the End of Swalwell Town Hall
When Eric Swalwell announced a two-hour town hall meeting on his Twitter/X at Santa Monica High School, I immediately registered and downloaded a ticket.
Knowing that town halls are typically structured as open Q&A sessions, I planned to ask Swalwell a straightforward and relevant question:
“The California Constitution requires a candidate for governor to be a resident of the state for five years prior to an election.
Yet the Deed of Trust on your Washington, D.C., home designates it as your principal residence.
You have no California home address and even used your attorney’s address on your official candidate filing.
Will you provide me with your California home address now, or will you announce that you are dropping out of the governor’s race at this time?”
I have been covering Eric Swalwell’s disqualification scandal since last November in The Gateway Pundit.

The Santa Monica town hall seemed like the perfect opportunity to put these issues to Swalwell directly and on the record.
I arrived an hour early and took a seat in the front row. About 100 attendees eventually filled three rows of chairs arranged around a small platform with a stool and microphone.
A woman who identified herself as a Swalwell staffer took the stage wearing an “I Like Crushed ICE” T-shirt.
She launched into a speech about her hatred of fascism and made a crude “Nazi joke” involving White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, noting that he had once attended the same high school. She then introduced Swalwell.
Instead of heading straight to the stage, Swalwell began greeting and shaking hands with everyone seated in the front rows, including me.
When he reached me, he said, “Nice to see you, how are you?” I replied, “Thanks for coming.” At that moment, I noticed a sudden, visible change in his expression, almost panic. I wondered if he had recognized me.
Swalwell then took the stage and delivered opening remarks for about ten minutes before announcing, “Tonight, you can ask me anything.” Much of his talk focused on affordability and housing costs, but several moments stood out:
On ICE agents: Swalwell invoked the diary of Anne Frank, claiming, “It started with ICE agents chasing our friends and neighbors through the fields.”
He added, “Women are being dragged by their hair and pulled through the streets,” and promised that as governor he would “use law enforcement powers to prosecute them.” He further stated, “I introduced legislation today to strip ICE of their immunity.”
On funding the government: Swalwell declared, “I’m not paying for ICE officers to shoot moms in the face. I’m not voting for ICE funding. I’m not voting for Border Patrol funding.”
His remarks suggested that Democrats are planning to shut down the government once again at the end of this month.
On choosing to be a Democrat: Swalwell said, “I was raised by Republicans,” and admitted that becoming a Democrat was “probably to antagonize my parents.” He noted that his father and two brothers are police officers.
On running for governor: Swalwell remarked, “I don’t need to do this. I have a safe seat in Congress. I would be the next Democrat to be the chair of the Homeland Security when the current Democrat were to leave Congress.”
CIA relationship: Swalwell emphasized his intelligence credentials, stating, “For eight years, I oversaw the CIA in Congress. I went to 40 countries. I met with presidents, prime ministers, foreign ministers”.
In addition to serving on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Swalwell was appointed as the lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on the CIA, for the oversight, policy, activities, and budget of the CIA.
In that context, his entanglement with alleged Chinese spy Christine Fang, also known as ‘Fang Fang’, becomes even more concerning.
Fang was linked to Swalwell’s campaign fundraising efforts and even recommended an intern for his congressional office.
Role in January 6 investigation: Swalwell claimed, “There’s three days since the Civil War that are the most important days in American history. December 7, 1941, September 11, and January 6.”
On fighting Donald Trump: Swalwell asserted, “He’s condoning the unforgivable murders of Renee Good and Keith Porter by ICE agents. Additionally, he and his agents of hate are getting away with corruption.” He also claimed, “I have the only lawsuit that has survived him becoming president.”
On upcoming November midterms: “We’re better than this, and we’re going to prove it in the midterms when he’s going to get a big ass kicking.”
Despite advertising a two-hour town hall, Swalwell took only eight questions over roughly 30 minutes before abruptly ending the event. “I have confidence in you that we are going to get through this,” he told the crowd.
“Terrible President is because he is a terrible person. I see that you see that, and I’m tired of hearing him say, Make America Great Again.”
Many attendees were visibly disappointed. Like others, I had expected a genuine opportunity to ask a question. As Swalwell stepped off the stage, I approached and made eye contact, but he turned away to speak with someone else.
A woman then announced that anyone wanting a photo with Swalwell should form a line. I joined, intending to ask him, politely, for his California address during the photo.
Before I could proceed, three large security guards stepped in front of me and demanded, “What’s your plan here?” I replied, “To take a photo with the Congressman.”
They responded, “No, we’re not going to allow that. You can come over here and chat with us instead.” I answered, “that’s okay, I have nothing to say to you”. And I left.
After observing Swalwell up close, my assessment is that he is a calculating, highly ambitious politician.
California is effectively a one-party state. Swalwell understands that if he secures the Democratic nomination, he will be governor of California.
He appears convinced that positioning himself as a radical, anti-Trump Democrat is his path forward. Win or lose, I believe he intends to run for president again.
My impression is that Swalwell is a wannabe tyrant seeking high office to play out a lifelong childhood rebellion against his Republican parents on a grand scale. He wants to get some kind of ultimate revenge against them by taking power as a radical left Democrat.
Political tyrants in history who cause mass destruction and mayhem are usually psychopaths. I believe Swalwell has all the potential to be one of them.
