Hogs Grab 54 Rebounds in Loss at No. 20 Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Arkansas women’s basketball (11-7) fell to 0-4 in SEC play after an 85-50 loss at No. 20 Tennessee (12-3, 4-0 SEC) on Sunday afternoon in Knoxville.
Sophomore Jada Bates led the Hogs with 13 points for the second straight game and finished one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double.
First Quarter – 18-29
- Arkansas started Taleyah Jones, Wyvette Mayberry, Bonnie Deas, Jada Bates and Ashlynn Chlarson. Bates picked up her first career start.
- Tennessee won the opening tip and Janiah Barker got a put-back layup for the first points.
- Bates answered with a wide-open corner three-pointer.
- Tennessee had more makes (9) than Arkansas had attempts (7) and led 20-9 by the first media timeout at 4:16.
- Bates led the Hogs with seven points in the first quarter.
- Tennessee scored 11 points off of Arkansas’ seven turnovers in the first quarter.
- Both teams shot 50% in the first quarter, but the Lady Vols had 16 more attempts.
- Arkansas was 6-6 from the free-throw line in the opening quarter.
Second Quarter – 30-43
- The Hogs were scoreless for the first 2:31 until Chlarson got a put-back to make it 20-31. Jones’ and-one right after made it 23-31 with 6:47 left in the quarter.
- Freshman Harmonie Ware hit a three at the 5:23 mark to make it 33-26 Tennessee at the media timeout.
- Chlarson cut it to 5 points out of the timeout and the Lady Vols were scoreless for the last 2:01 and 1 for its last 7 from the field.
- Tennessee went on an 8-0 run to get it back to a 13-point game.
- The Razorbacks finished the half 1 for their last 10 from the field.
Third Quarter – 41-65
- Tennessee opened the half with an and-one from Mia Pauldo for its largest lead to this point, 16 points.
- Arkansas was held scoreless for over two minutes midway through the third quarter and the Lady Vols jumped out to a 21-point lead.
- The Hogs were held to a game-low 11 points in the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter – 50-85
- The Lady Vols hit a three from Janiah Barker to open the quarter.
- Tennessee’s 17-2 run gave them a 37-point lead with under three minutes to play.
Game Notes
- The Hogs committed 26 turnovers and the Lady Vols scored 25 points off the errors.
- Tennessee, which entered the game taking the second most threes nationally, went 11-41 from beyond the arc.
- Arkansas’ 54 rebounds were the most in SEC play this season and the most in an SEC game since the 2008-09 season.
