Local officials, celebs celebrate Bears comeback victory against Packers: 'This is the greatest moment ever'

In the wake of the Chicago Bears' stunning comeback victory Saturday, local celebrities and elected officials weighed in on the stunning defeat of the team’s greatest rival.

At one point the team had just a 4% probability of winning the game early in the fourth quarter, according to NFL stat tracker Next Gen Stats, but came back from 18 points behind in the second half for their first playoff win since 2010.

Pope Leo, who grew up in suburban Chicago and still has family in the area, has not publicly spoken about the biggest postseason comeback in franchise history, and the Vatican didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment — though that didn’t stop fans from quickly attributing the win to his Holiness.

Before Saturday night's game began at Soldier Field, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers taunted his Illinois counterpart, Gov. JB Pritzker, saying on social media that he didn’t need to make any bets with Pritzker due to the Packers' previous 13 championships. He ended the message with a hashtag: “BearsStillSuck.”

Pritzker got the last laugh, simply replying with a photo of a cheese grater and grated cheese minutes after the game clock ran out.

Mayor Brandon Johnson had a similarly succinct response to the win, posting just a cheese grater emoji, though before the game, he weighed in on the team’s stadium demands.

The team has threatened to move to the northwest suburbs — which would come with an $855 million infrastructure price tag for taxpayers — or Indiana if politicians don't fork over public money for a new stadium; fans haven’t been jazzed about the possibility, even with the team's hot streak.

“The Chicago Bears belong in a Chicago stadium that reflects our values with a public benefit and a public use,” Johnson wrote on social media hours before kickoff.

O’Hare Airport joined the scrum with an airport PA announcement-inspired post.

“NOW BOARDING: Daily, nonstop service to Green Bay, WI via United and American Airlines,” the airport posted. “Thanks for coming.”

The team also got props from fellow athletes, including Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese and 11-time Olympic gold medal gymnast Simone Biles, who is married to Bears' safety Jonathan Owens.

Cubs player Pete Crow-Armstrong referred to quarterback Caleb Williams as “Mr. Iceman” and wondered “How you do it?” in an Instagram post from the field shortly after the win.

Professional wrestler Seth Rollins, a Davenport, Iowa, native and longtime fan, posted his own celebration from his seats at the game: “We did it, Bears win,” Rollins said before sticking his tongue out and yelling.

Chicago rapper Adamn Killa — fresh off packing Calumet City's River Oaks Center for a viral stunt in an attempt to help revitalize it — posted a video in the style that made him famous, creating a sort of digital greeting card for fans celebrating the win.

"Send this to someone who likes the Chicago Bears," he said in the video before breaking into dance. "We just won, but it's time to Bear down. It was looking rough for a second, but we came back."

In a post-game video posted to social media from the end zone of Soldier Field, Arlington Heights native and Stranger Things star Jake Connelly said the win was the “greatest moment ever” as snow fell around him — possibly even better than landing his role as the bully-turned-hero Derek.

“This is the best moment I’ve ever had in my life,” Connelly said to the camera. “It might even just top getting on Stranger Things. I’ll have to think about it, but this is the greatest moment ever.”
