CSOs Praise APM Government for Restoring Security
Civil society organisations under the National Advocacy Platform (NAP) have commended the Malawi Police Service for an operation at Mbowe Filling Station in Lilongwe that thwarted an armed robbery on 10 January 2026.
The statement, co-signed by NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe and National Coordinator Baxton Nkhoma and released on 11 January, described the operation as “exemplary, professional, and intelligence-led,” noting that officers acted decisively to prevent harm to the public while arresting the suspect without loss of life.
NAP said the operation demonstrates preventive, community-centred policing that respects human rights and strengthens public confidence, particularly for citizens using vulnerable public spaces such as ATMs.
The statement urged the police to formally recognise and reward the officers involved through commendations and career progression, encouraging other officers to emulate their professionalism and restraint.
Civil society reaffirmed its commitment to supporting lawful, accountable and people-centred policing that promotes peace, stability, and safety for all Malawians.
