SA Women’s Hockey Team and Canada play out scoreless draw in Test Two



The SA Women’s Hockey Team and the Canada Women’s Hockey Team played out a hard fought 0–0 draw in the second match of their five game series at HS Menlopark in Pretoria, in a contest defined by intensity, defensive discipline and near misses at both ends.

Italy close in on promotion as Greece are the comeback kings



Italy took a massive step toward promotion back to the top tier for the first time since 2010 while Greece produced an historic comeback to also make it two wins on Saturday.

Ranchi: After an intense 1-1 draw in regulation time,  SG Pipers defeated Shrachi Bengal Tigers 3-2 in the shootout to lift the coveted Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025-26 title. Preeti Dubey (53') and Lalremsiami (16') scored goals over the four quarters for SG Pipers and Shrachi Bengal Tigers respectively. Captain Navneet Kaur, Juana Castellaro and Lola Riera scored and Bansari Solanki made crucial saves in the shootout to help SG Pipers win the Final.

The final trickled down to the third sudden death of the season between the SG Pipers and Bengal Tigers with the latter prevailing both times. But when it mattered the most, the Pipers had the last laugh.

It was eventually Sofie Gierts’ coaching tour de force that saw the SG Pipers pull the rabbit out of the hat. For she won the one penalty shootout that eventually mattered.

SG Pipers were crowned champions of the Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025–26 after defeating Shrachi Bengal Tigers 3-2 in a shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at Ranchi on Friday.

The Egmond half-marathon on Sunday will have at least one runner by the name of Sosha Benninga missing in action during the flag-off.



Retired India forward Vandana Katariya ‘available’ to make international hockey return

Vandana Katariya, who had made her senior team debut in 2009, had left the sport last year as the most capped player in the history of Indian women’s hockey. She has 320 international appearances and 158 goals under her belt.

Former India forward Vandana Katariya, who had announced her retirement from international hockey on April 1, 2025, has now expressed eagerness to make a comeback to the national team.



Davinder Singh Garcha passes away at 73

Former international hockey player Davinder Singh Garcha, who won the gold in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, passed away on Saturday in his Jalandhar home. He was 73 years old.
