Jamie Donley’s season goes from bad to worse just days after new Tottenham loan
Tottenham’s Jamie Donley has suffered a fresh setback after securing a new move away from north London in Oxford United’s FA Cup tie.
Jamie Donley was one of Tottenham Hotspur’s top-performing loan stars last season, where he spent most of his time with League One side Leyton Orient.
Donley managed eight goals and ten assists with the O’s last term and even won their Player of the Season award.
The attacking midfielder’s talent and quality were clear to see, earning him a bigger move to the Championship with Stoke City, but things did not pan out well for Donley.
Tottenham loanee Jamie Donley suffers injury setback at Oxford United
The 21-year-old managed just 77 minutes of action with Stoke in the first half of the season, and it came as little surprise when Spurs recalled Donley this winter and arranged a loan move to Oxford United in the Championship as they aimed to get him more game time.
The Tottenham youngster did not have to wait long to earn his first start, as he was thrown straight into the mix for his debut in Oxford United’s FA Cup tie.
However, the 21-year-old’s night was cut short rather swiftly as he picked up an injury 17 minutes into the encounter after a very bad fall, landing on the back of his neck and shoulder. He was subbed off immediately with Myles Peart-Harris replacing the Spurs youngster.
Oxford United interim manager Craig Short said (Oxford Mail): “It looked nasty with Jamie…I’ve not found out what has gone on, but I think he has a bit of concussion. He had a shoulder injury as well as a rib injury, so it was tough to see that.”
Spurs youngster facing another frustrating spell
It is rather unfortunate for the Tottenham midfielder, who has had to manage a difficult period this season. The length of his injury is yet to be confirmed, and the hope is that it is nothing serious that will keep him out for an extended period.
Oxford United did, however, go on to win the FA Cup tie against Milton Keynes Dons after a penalty shootout, beating them 4-3.
