Fletcher makes 4 changes | Predicted Man Utd XI vs Brighton & Hove Albion as Mainoo returns
Manchester United entertain Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round at Old Trafford today.
Ahead of the game, interim manager Darren Fletcher could make at least four changes to the starting line-up from the 2-2 draw against Burnley on the road in midweek.
United are aiming to reach the FA Cup fourth round for the 12th straight occasion.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
Altay Bayindir has been a substitute since being displaced by Senne Lammens in goal back in October. The latter has played every Premier League minute since then. Bayindir started in the FA Cup last term, and could return between the sticks against Brighton.
Diogo Dalot is assured to start at right-back with Noussair Mazraoui on international duty, but we anticipate Patrick Dorgu dropping into the left-back role after Luke Shaw’s average outing at Burnley. Leny Yoro could likewise replace Ayden Heaven, partnering Lisandro Martinez in central defence.
Casemiro desperately needs a breather, given his age and limited mobility. It appears the perfect game for Kobbie Mainoo to be reinstated in the starting XI. The Englishman could line up alongside Manuel Ugarte in the heart of the midfield against the Seagulls.
In the final third, Matheus Cunha should move to the left wing with Dorgu dropping into defence. Bruno Fernandes is a nailed-on starter in the number 10 role. The same can be said for Benjamin Sesko upfront on the back of his fantastic brace against the Clarets on the road.
There is the temptation to start Shea Lacey on the right wing after his lively cameo at Turf Moor where he almost scored with a long-range shot, only to be denied by the woodwork. However, the importance of the fixture could see Fletcher opt for Mason Mount instead.
Fletcher has already confirmed that Bryan Mbeumo won’t make the squad despite Cameroon’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday. Amad Diallo’s AFCON campaign with the Ivory Coast ended last night. The duo could make their returns in the Manchester derby.
