Bears left tackle Ozzy Trapilo, linebacker T.J. Edwards out for season after injuries in Packers game
Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards broke his left leg and left tackle Ozzy Trapilo injured his patellar tendon Saturday during the 31-27 playoff win over the Packers. Coach Ben Johnson said the team would reevaluate them Sunday to confirm the injuries, but said it's likely they're out for the rest of the season.
"It doesn't look good for either one of those guys," Johnson said.
Edwards appeared to get hurt on a non-contact play in the second quarter and was carted to the locker room with his entire left leg wrapped. Trapilo hopped to the sideline after hurting his knee in the final minutes as the Bears drove to take the lead.
Trapilo, a rookie, worked his way into the starting lineup midseason and held the job the rest of the way. Theo Benedet came in for him at the end of the game Saturday, and the Bears can activate tackle Braxton Jones from injured reserve ahead of their divisional round game against the Eagles or Rams next weekend.
Jones was their starter from 2022 through '24 and began this season as the starting left tackle before getting benched in favor of Benedet. Benedet then was benched for Trapilo.
Edwards has been one of the Bears' most reliable defensive players throughout his three seasons with them and got a contract extension through 2027 in the recent offseason. He missed seven games due to injury in the regular season.
