Bears S Kevin Byard, LG Joe Thuney selected as All-Pros; RT Darnell Wright earns second-team pick
After years with no Associated Press All-Pro selections, the Bears had two players picked this season: Left guard Joe Thuney and safety Kevin Byard. Right tackle Darnell Wright also was a second-team selection.
Thuney was picked for the third consecutive season and has been a Pro Bowl selection the last four seasons. Byard, who led the NFL with seven interceptions, got picked for the third time. He also was an All-Pro for the Titans in 2017 and '21.
The second-team honor was a breakthrough for Wright in his third season, and that's very good timing for him as he heads toward negotiations for a contract extension this offseason. The Bears drafted Wright No. 10 overall in 2023.
Thuney and Byard were picked for the Pro Bowl this season along with Bears center Drew Dalman.
The Bears' last All-Pro selection was linebacker Roquan Smith in 2022, when they traded him midseason to the Ravens. Before that, special teamer Cordarrelle Patterson was picked in 2019 and '20. The last time they had multiple selections was when linebacker Khalil Mack, safety Eddie Jackson, cornerback Kyle Fuller and running back and returner Tarik Cohen were chosen in 2018.
The Bears host the Packers in the first round of the playoffs Saturday.
