Sports Briefs: Last-minute rally lifts Archie Williams over San Rafael
Brian Wright converted a three-point play to give Archie Williams High the lead with 50 seconds left on the clock in Friday’s 45-42 victory over San Rafael at College of Marin. Meezy Butler added two free throws to ice the win for the Peregrine Falcons (1-0 MCAL, 12-3).
Butler finished with 14 points, while Wright tallied 13 points and Ephraim Sohn had nine points for Archie Williams.
Luke Shapiro led the Bulldogs (0-1, 11-8) with 21 points, while Wyatt Tornello grabbed nine points and 15 rebounds. Kannon Wood scored eight points in the first half for San Rafael.
- Charlie Poser scored a team-best 13 points to lead Redwood High to a 70-53 victory over rival Tam High in Friday’s MCAL opener in Mill Valley. Leo Centeno added 12 points for the Giants (1-0, 5-10), who got 11 points from Richard Byrne and 10 from Max Montrastelii.
- NJ Gray scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Branson School to a 72-36 victory over Novato on Friday night. Gray also had five assists and Tyler Wells added 12 points for the Bulls (1-0, 6-9).
- Novato resident Jack Ellis lit up the scoreboard with 32 points for St. Vincent in Friday’s 68-60 victory over Healdsburg. George Chaput added 13 points for the Mustangs, who host Novato on Saturday.
Girls basketball
Redwood posted a 69-9 victory over host Tam High in Friday’s MCAL opener. The Giants (1-0, 9-4) are scheduled to host San Rafael on Tuesday.
