Spruce Kings Sink Rivermen 6-4
The Prince George Spruce Kings took a 3-0 lead in the opening period and never trailed in the game with a 6-4 victory on Friday night on Indigenous Night.
Marcus Lougheed got the Spruce Kings on the board at 4:05 when he tucked home a puck from the top of the crease from Jackson Froysland and Evan Bellamy.
The Spruce Kings would widen the gap to 2-0 at 16:10 as Dracen Campbell’s wrister found the back of the net from Tai Ushio and Lougheed.
Just 1:07 later, Michael Denney and Ryan Wachtel had a couple of great chances, before Bellamy picked it up below the goal line and wrapped it around to make it 3-0, outshooting the Rivermen 17-6 in the frame.
The second period was a wild one, as the teams combined for six goals and the Spruce Kings escaped with a 5-4 lead.
Frederic Deschenes made it 3-1 as he found a loose puck, then 50 seconds later, Mason Loewen scored on his own rebound from the breakaway.
The Rivermen scored the next two as Parker Forlin and Hunter Curtis scored 1:04 apart.
Michael Denney scored his 9th of the season on the power play at 13:28, but Christian Chouha got the Rivermen back within a goal at 18:27.
There was no scoring until the final minute of the third period with the Spruce Kings shorthanded, as Ryder Green kept the play alive and Isaac Holt spun and fired the puck the length of the ice and hit the empty net to seal the victory.
The Spruce Kings are back in action tomorrow at 6:00 pm against the Rivermen.
