11 TTP fighters killed in northwest operations, Pakistan army says
Pakistan’s military said it killed 11 Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan fighters in two security operations in North Waziristan and Kurram districts this month.
Pakistan’s military says it has killed 11 fighters of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in two separate security operations in the country’s northwest, amid a surge in militant violence.
According to the Express Tribune, the operations were carried out on January 8, citing a statement issued by the Pakistani army following the raids.
The military said the first operation took place in North Waziristan, where six TTP fighters were killed during an exchange of fire with security forces.
A second operation was conducted in Kurram district, where five additional fighters were killed. The army said weapons and ammunition were recovered from both sites. The TTP has not issued any immediate comment regarding the reported killings.
North Waziristan and surrounding districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have long been strongholds of militant groups and remain key areas for Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations.
Militant attacks in the region have increased since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, with Pakistani officials accusing the TTP of operating from across the border.
Pakistan’s military says it will continue intelligence-based operations to counter militant threats and maintain security in restive border areas.
The Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies has described 2025 as the deadliest year for Pakistan in recent times, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, underlining the scale of the security challenge.
