Per Variety, what was originally supposed to be a TV series, Happy Place will be adapted into a film instead, with Jennifer Lopez still on as a producer. It will still debut on Netflix as planned.
Happy Place centers on “former couple Harriet and Wyn, who pretend to still be together for one last summer trip with their best friends at a Maine beach house while struggling with the tension of their broken engagement.”
Funny Story was previously announced to be turned into a movie, with Emily writing the screenplay, and now it’s been revealed that the movie will also debut on Netflix, extending her partnership with the streamer.
Funny Story is a “shimmering, joyful tale about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common. The story follows Daphne, a children’s librarian coping with her broken engagement to Peter, who realized too late that he loved his childhood best friend, Petra. Stranded in her ex’s lakeside hometown, Daphne becomes roommates with Petra’s ex, Miles, and despite their differences, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan to get back at…or with their exes.”
Casting for both projects has yet to be announced and some fans are already pitching for Heated Rivalry‘s Hudson Williams to star in Happy Place, especially after noticing that JLo and Emily both followed him on Instagram.
