Neemias Queta Discusses Upcoming Matchup Vs. ‘Hilarious’ Former Celtics Teammate
The Boston Celtics will close their four-game homestand with games against the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs on Friday and Saturday night, respectively.
Saturday’s tilt vs. the Spurs will be Boston and San Antonio’s first meeting of the season, meaning that former Celtics fan favorite Luke Kornet will be making his return to TD Garden.
Boston center Neemias Queta discussed the upcoming reunion with Kornet on Friday.
“Neemias Queta on former teammate Luke Kornet, who the Celtics will face tomorrow: ‘Hilarious teammate. Great guy, great person to be around… The main memory I get from him is just how funny it was… Every day, how much he would come out here and lift everybody’s spirits up. Hilarious guy,'” Celtics reporter Bobby Krivitsky posted on Bluesky.
Kornet’s offseason departure (along with Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis) opened the door for Queta to become the Celtics starting center and the former second-round pick has taken full advantage of the opportunity.
Queta enters Friday averaging 10.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest, is shooting 65.1% from the field and is a contender for the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year award.
The 26-year-old is a big reason why Boston is 10 games over .500 at 23-13.
Kornet, meanwhile, has been solid for the 26-11 Spurs, posting career highs in points (8.4), rebounds (6.7), assists (2.1), blocks (1.4) and minutes per game (24.9) across 29 contests (21 starts).
