Jennifer Lawrence Reveals the ‘Scary’ Incident With Her Son That Made Her Re-home Her Dog
Many people welcome pets before they become parents (it really does prepare you a bit!). But for Jennifer Lawrence, her “dog mom” status ended after a “scary” incident with her son. The Hunger Games alum revealed the heart-breaking reason why she decided to re-home her dog in a new interview.
During a Q&A for Die My Love on Jan. 7, shared in a video on Instagram, per E! News, Lawrence addressed a fan question about her former Chihuahua named Princess Pippi Longstocking. Lawrence, who is mom to 3-year-old son Cy and a 1-year-old son with husband Cooke Maroney, revealed that her dog is living with her parents instead of her.
“She did not like New York,” Lawrence said, according to the outlet. “I lived on 1st and 67th just to be near the park for her. After I had a kid, dogs became so scary.”
“My son’s going up to it and it’s almost like I don’t recognize dogs right now,” she continued. “I just see them as a threat. One of them bit my son and that just made me want to obliterate every dog ever.”
She didn’t give more details as to which dog bit her son, although since she said, “one of them,” we have to assume it was just a random New York dog that they happened upon at the park. That would be scary, especially with kids that little. While some people might not stress about it — especially if they’re dog didn’t do the biting — it’s her choice if she wants to keep a pet-free home for her kids right now. Especially since her parents were able to take the dog to their house.
After my first baby was born 8 years ago, I also had to re-home a cat that became too aggressive and scratched my son as an infant. My mother-in-law brought the cat into her home, and now I still get to visit her whenever I want (ironically, my son is obsessed with her now!). So, I completely understand needing to make this difficult decision for your family if that’s what you think is best.
In October, the No Hard Feelings star opened up about her difficult postpartum anxiety after her second baby was born. “I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead,” she told The New Yorker. “I thought he cried because he didn’t like his life, or me, or his family. I thought I was doing everything wrong, and that I would ruin my children.”
Even without having postpartum anxiety, it’s common to feel like we are going to mess up our children somehow, and I can’t imagine how much worse that feeling would be if your child was actually hurt, like Lawrence’s with the dog bite. She’s brave to admit that she had to re-home her dog, something that shouldn’t be taken lightly, but shouldn’t be villainized either. That was the best choice for her family, and at the end of the day, that’s all we can hope to do.
These celeb families wouldn’t be complete without their furry friends.
