The Goat’s Surf Forecast
Surf forecast issued Friday 9 January 2026: Seven day outlook for Sydney:
TG said i was lucky to catch him..It’s holidays, and he’s busy with staying kool, having naps and keeping on top of domestic and global developments.
The surf came up Friday from the North East, from the strengthening NorEaster honking along around 40 kph. So, bigger waves at southern ends with no takers, and smaller waves at northen ends with the keen kids.
The Surf Outlook Summary is “Summery”.
Hot (The ABM forecasts 42 degree max for Saturday), followed by a Cool change, followed by Warm again, with wind changes having the predominant influence on waves and surfing options
Saturday: similar to Friday – in the 1-2 metre range from the North East (with Northerly/Norwest wind) ahead of a late southerly change
Sunday: coming up at places open to dead South, sy 1-2 metres South, 2ish metres South East
Monday: easing back in the 1-2 metre range South/South East
Tuesday: down a bit more 1 – 1+ metres East
Wednesday: ditto
Thursday: ditto South
Friday: starting to come up a bit into the 1-2 metre range South East.
Tips on staying cool on 42 degree days – (which are not unusual in Sydney – for those who might think they are).
Get in the water – if you can
Don’t venture out in the heat of the day – unless you’re happy to get hot
Wear a hat – un;ess you’re happy to fry your brain
Drink lots of liquids (not alcohol) to stay hydrated
Open the front and back doors/windows in your house to create a breezeway through the house (ideally with a covered shady verandah around your house) reflecting Australian housing from BAC – Before Air Conditioning. The Noreaster is Nature’s Air Conditioner. Let the cool air in and the hot air out – unless you want to create a hotbox inside.
Stay Kool.
