Now You Can Yearn Along to the Heated Rivalry Soundtrack
Lace up your skates, take off your shirt, and, girl, get your headphones on because Heated Rivalry just did a nocturnal emission midnight release of two songs from the original-series soundtrack. The music, by Canadian singer-songwriter and producer Peter Peter, will be familiar to anyone who has watched and rewatched the breakout series, and it comes ahead of a full soundtrack to be released later this month. It’s one way to tide Hollanov fans over until we get a “hotter, wetter, longer” second season on HBO Max and Crave sometime in the not-soon-enough future.
The first song, “Rivalry,” is the instrumental techno track that opens the series and plays throughout the show; it has a propulsive, clubby, distinctly Challengers-esque vibe.
The slow and dreamy second track, “It’s You,” was featured in episode two and has the kind of straightforward, simple lyrics that evoke Jane and Lily’s distinctively monosyllabic texting style: “What the hell are you? / The hell are you? / Now please don’t go. / Now please don’t go …”
Show creator Jacob Tierney has said he wanted to ask Carly Rae Jepsen to write music for the series, and Miley Cyrus has stated her interest in making music for season two. But between now and then, there will be approximately one trillion fan cams set to these Peter Peter tracks.
