Martha Stewart’s 2-Ingredient Breakfast Recipe Is ‘Much Smoother, Creamier & Richer’ Than Store-Bought
If yogurt is your go-to breakfast, then Martha Stewart has the upgrade you didn’t know you needed. She just shared a homemade yogurt recipe that is “much smoother, creamier and richer” than store-bought, and it only requires two ingredients!
Stewart called the recipe “game-changing” in a new post on Instagram. “Just two ingredients come together to create yogurt that is so much smoother, creamier, and richer than anything you can buy at the grocery store,” she wrote.
“Enjoy it for breakfast with fruit and granola, work it into marinades and sauces, or add it to smoothies,” she added.
Stewart’s Homemade Yogurt recipe requires just two ingredients: 2-percent, fresh dairy milk and 3 tablespoons of a plain, low-fat yogurt. You can slightly modify this based on the type of yogurt you want. For example, a whole milk will make a “richer and creamier” yogurt, according to Stewart, and a non-fat milk will make a non-fat yogurt.
Start by heating milk in a large saucepan over medium-high heat and cooking until it reaches precisely 180°F on an instant-read thermometer, then letting it cool. Next, whisk 1 cup of milk and the yogurt, and stir it into the remaining milk.
From there, you’ll transfer the mixture to a mason jar and let it ferment by wrapping the sides of the jar in clean kitchen towels. It will need to sit undisturbed in a warm place for at least 4 to 5 hours. Afterward, you’ll put it in the fridge until it cools, then screw a lid on top and return to fridge for when you’re ready to serve.
This delicious yogurt can then be used in recipes, blended into smoothies, or simply eaten as-is with your favorite toppings, like granola, fruit, or honey. Just don’t forget to save a few tablespoons so you can make the recipe again and again! Once you get the hang of it, it’ll be an easy recipe that saves you so much money (especially if your family consists of big yogurt-eaters like mine does!).
